Kirstenbosch and Constantia Tour
The Kirstenbosch and Constantia Tour begins with a walk through the award-winning Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens where, with minor exceptions, only indigenous plants are cultivated. Here you will see the full range of proteas, restios and ericas that make up South Africa’s unique fynbos biome – the world’s smallest yet richest floral kingdom – as well as cycads, and hundreds of other indigenous and endemic plants and flowers. Kirtsnebosch celebrates 100 years of existance this year and there are several special displays to commemorate this.
Weather permitting, the Kirstenbosch and Constantia Tour includes a picnic lunch in the garden, or we can have lunch at Moyo – a very typically South African restaurant – and then proceed to the Constantia Wine Route to visit the oldest and most famous wine estate in South Africa: Groot Constantia, which is also home to the best example of Cape Dutch architecture. Depending on time we can visit other estates on this route, including Constantia Uitsig, Klein Constantia (producers of the world-renowned Vin de Constance, much loved by kings and queens of Europe), Buitenverwachting and Steenberg for a cheese and wine pairing.
