West Coast Tour
The West Coast Tour takes in one of the most under-appreciated yet beautiful regions only a few minutes up the coast from Cape Town. It is famous for the bountiful flowers that carpet the ground in spring (September), and the many fishermen’s villages that dot the landscape.
This region can be explored in several days or as a day-trip at a distance of approximately 90 minutes from Cape Town.
Our West Coast tour begins with an educational / enlightening note, with a visit to a San cultural village for a glimpse of how life was lived by the original peoples of South Africa. Descendants of these people will show you how their ancestors used medicinal plants, how they survived and found water in desert conditions, how they hunted and lived.
The visually stimulating aspect of the West Coast Tour then commences as we visit the scenic West Coast National Park which covers 30,000 hectares and is one of the jewels of this region. The park is open to the public all year around but a special section is open only during the annual spring-flower extravaganza. Lunch is usually enjoyed overlooking the tranquil Langebaan Lagoon – houseboats bobbing away in the calm waters – and to see the unspoilt scenery of marshes, flowers in season, and perhaps some wild animals.
